STRAFFORD, MO – EnSight Solutions has partnered with Soft Robotics Inc. to develop a new high-speed food-grade automated pick-and-place solution that utilizes 3D vision and artificial intelligence.
The solution uses the mGripAI™ 3D vision system, artificial intelligence and soft gripper from Soft Robotics to identify food coming down a conveyor in a chaotic flow. The camera can pick out individual items, such as a chicken leg in a pile of chicken parts, and direct the robot to pick up that particular product and realign it on a separate conveyor for further processing. The solution is ideal for processes where ingredients are in a chaotic fashion and need to be restyled before going into a slicer, tenderizer or other further processing machine.
In addition to mGripAI, the automated picker features a Stäubli TS260 six-axis hygienic robot and Soft Robotics end-of-arm tooling. The solution is designed specifically for primary food handling and is therefore IP69K rated and can handle caustic wash-down procedures.
The robot can make up to 60 picks per minute.
